Lady Bucs Close Out Regular Season With Win on Senior Night

The Beech Lady Buccaneers (13-13, 7-7) welcomed the struggling Gallatin Lady Wave (3-22, 2-12) Friday Night for Senior Night.  The Lady Buccaneers, with only two seniors are very young and the future is bright in the coming years for the Lady Bucs.  They got the 54-36 victory to close out the regular season.

The Lady Bucs got off to a 9-0 start, fueled by Alex Banks, McKenna Taylor, and Jule Kranz.  The Lady Wave got their first points of the game on a Brittany Mockabee three-pointer.  Falon Baker quickly responded with a three of her own to make the score 12-9.  Taylor hit a jumper for the Lady Bucs and Tatum Pryor hit two free-throws for the Wave to end the quarter with the score 14-5 in favor of the Lady Buccaneers.

Gallatin looked to turn things around in the 2nd and seemed to be off to a good start with a Casey Milan three-ball to cut the lead to six.  Senior Carlie Gordon got her first points of Senior Night with a basket and Banks later added a layup.  After a Gordon free-throw, Pryor made a two-pointer, trying to just slowly crawl back in the game.  Banks hit another layup to end the scoring in the first half.  The Lady Buccaneers went into the locker room with a 21-10 lead.

The Lady Bucs came out of the half with tunnel vision.  They outscored the Lady Wave 8-0 early on in the half.  After a Gallatin timeout, Pryor hit a jump shot to end the run.  Shelby Brown of Beech hit a jumper and Banks added a pair of free-throws to extend the Lady Buc lead to 33-14.  McKenna Taylor's jumper was sandwiched by a couple of Lady Wave threes, and Gallatin called another timeout.  Gordon made a layup for her squad but Milan hit a three-pointer to end the 3rd quarter with the score reading 37-23.

The teams exchanged baskets and had back-and-forth play but the game seemed over when Shelby Brown hit a jumper to extend the Beech lead to fifteen.  The Lady Bucs continued to pile on the points and prevent the Lady Wave from doing so.  When the final horn sounded, the Lady Buccaneers were victorious by a score of 54-36.

The Lady Buccaneers end their regular season at .500 in both overall and district play.  The Gallatin Lady Wave end their disappointing season with only three wins overall and two inside district 9AAA play.  Both teams will move on to the District 9AA tournament beginning Monday, February 18.

Buccaneers Notch Coming Home Win Over Rival Station Camp

The Beech Buccaneers (14-11, 8-5) played host to the Station Camp Bison (14-11, 9-4) on their annual Coming Home night on Tuesday.  The Buccaneers were looking to continue their four game win-streak, while the Bison were hoping to keep a two game win-streak going.  Neither team would have it easy, however.  Station Camp won the last match-up in Gallatin by a score of 51-42.  That game saw Brad McClung and Jordan Stafford each score eighteen points to fuel a strong second half for the Bison.  The Buccaneers knew who they had to stop and for the most part they did.  They were able to pull out a 50-41 victory over their rivals from up the street.

The Bucs jumped out to a four point lead through Kyle Hood and Seth Brown but McClung hit a three-pointer to cut the lead to one.  Later on in the quarter, Brown hit a layup and Toby Lee made a layup to extend the lead to 8-3.  Coming out of a Bison timeout, Mark Brown hit a jumper to cut the lead back to three.  Station Camp later tied it up by way of a Dusty Buchanan three.  Ryne Chamberlin hit a runner in the lane to end the quarter to give Beech a 10-8 lead after the first quarter of play.

Brown hit a jumper for the Bison and Easton Cline took the lead for Station Camp with a three forcing Coach Darrin Joines to call a timeout.  Kyle Hood knocked down a three to tie it up and Seth Brown hit a pair of free-throws putting the Bucs back ahead 15-13.  The Buccaneer lead was then extended as Ryne Chamberlin hit a three-ball, Brown put in a layup, and Sam Landrith hit a free-toss.  Bryce Kohler made a free-throw for the Bison's only point in the second quarter following the Beech timeout.  Ryne Chamberlin was fouled on a three-point attempt and hit all three from the charity-stripe to give the Buccaneers a 24-14 lead heading into the half.

C.J. Cummings made a layup off an alley-oop pass, and both teams exchanged three-pointers to open up the second half.  After a pair of layups from the Buccaneers, the head coach of the Bison, Seth Massey, was forced to call a timeout.  Toby Lee had the next points of the game with an electrifying, old-fashioned three-point play on a steal and slam over the defender.  Station Camp got a couple of free-throws and a three-pointer to cut the lead to fifteen.  After a Cline layup, the Bison were on a 7-0 run and Coach Joines called his second timeout of the game.  After a 3-second call on Chris Hathaway, the Bison got an old-fashioned three-point play from Brown extending the Bison run to 10-0.  On the next Beech possession, Brown ended the run with a layup and Cummings got a dunk to end the 3rd quarter as the Bucs lead the Bison 42-27.

Seth Brown and Toby Lee each got a basket to open up the last period of play.  Beech and Station Camp traded baskets in the middle of the quarter, but the Bison cut it to nine lead by Brown, and when they get hot shooting, that's not a large number at all.  Unfortunately for the Bison, their scoring ran out and time ran out as the Bucs held their home court and avenged their earlier loss to the Bison with a 50-41 win.

The Beech Buccaneers stretch their win-streak to five and improve to 14-11 overall and 8-5 in the district.  They play their last game of the regular season against Gallatin for Senior Night.  The Station Camp Bison fall to 14-11 and 9-4 in the district.
